Ms. Lea Javornik Novak, Acting Director General from the Ministry of Labor, Family and Social Affairs addressed the 54th session of the Commission on the Status of Women
New York, 3 March 2010 - Ms. Lea Javornik Novak, Acting Director General from the Ministry of Labor, Family and Social Affairs addressed the 54th session of the Commission on the Status of Women under Agenda Item 3: »Follow-up to the Fourth World Conference on Women and to the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly entitled Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century«.
Ms. Javornik Novak stressed that Beijing conference was a milestone in the advancement of women. Since the adoption of the Beijing declaration and Platform for action significant progress has been made in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women.
She presented implementation of the Platform for action in Slovenia and highlighted challenges which Slovenian government views as pertinent for the realization of Beijing objectives. She called on the Governments and UN to translate political commitments into swift undertaking of uncompromising policies and their effective implementation of the Platform for Action.
